Obituary: Drumheller mail - August 1933
GEORGE WILLIAM CARRUTHERS: The sudden death of George William Carruthers, 62, of Munson, occurred on Friday last, August 11, 1933, at the Drumheller Municipal Hospital, after a short illness. He had not been in the best of health for several years, but was admitted to the hospital only a short time ago. The late Mr. Carruthers was born at West Branch, Kent County, New Brunswick, and was of Scottish origin. He came to Munson 23 years ago and commenced a blacksmith business, for a time being located in a tent and afterwards building a shop. For three years previous to this he worked for Frank Moody in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. He is survived by his widow and two sons, James in Saskatchewan, and Floyd, at home. The funeral was held at the United Church, Munson, on Monday afternoon at two o'clock, the church being crowded to capacity. Mrs. C.F. Rannie officiated at the organ and the choir led the singing of hymns. Rev. H.S. McDonald was the officiating clergyman. Pallbearers were six old-timers of the Munson district: Messrs. T.S. Branston, J. Bowey, R. Benson, A. Edwards Senior, H.L. McDermid and P.J. Tarr. Floral tributes were sent by the following: The Family; Mr. and Mrs. S.F. Rudolf; Friends of Munson District; Roy and Mrs. Benson, Beatrice, Frederick and Mr. and Mrs. F. Pendle; Munson Curling Club; Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Lavers and Jessie; Rannie, McConkey & Bowey Ltd.; Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Finlayson and family; Munson W.I.; Ladies' Aid of the United Church and Munson United Church; Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Tarr; Mr. And Mrs. G.C. Duncan; Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Hughes Daisy and Don; Mr. And Mrs. T.S. Branson; Winter Bros. Funeral arrangements were in the hands of Winter Bros.' Funeral Home. Interment being made in Munson cemetery. 4
