Manometro by Guiliano Mazzuoli – the essence of a watch
Okay, yes I know, it’s not a Seiko. And it’s designed based on the look of an old Italian tire pressure gauge. Plus it’s roughly $3500.
But…
Clean. Simple lines. Functional. Legible. Solid. Presence.
There are watch wearers who feel the more features a watch has, the better. And even among the rest of us, certain complications resonate… A GMT mechanism, reminding us of the days when travel was different, exciting, memorable. A vintage large date mechanical, from when such a mechanism was a challenging feat of watchmaking to design and build.
However, when I need to read a technical manual to use a modern watch, it becomes something else. Perhaps a wrist computer, or a less designed iPod? In the end, it becomes just another tool.
The Manometro, to me, is the essence of a watch. What it does, is tell the time. That’s it. But, it has also been designed, by an individual with an original idea, who translated those thoughts into an actual physical item, based on what he saw in his mind. A mechanical treasure, produced in low volumes, and enjoyed by a few – not everybody will like this. I do. And yes, it’s on my grail wish list ![]()
