Looks like it’s the week for posts about deal sites. Today, I was emailed about a 50% off deal from Orient. For example, an Orient Mako automatic 200m diver can be had for $80 plus shipping, brand new, from Orient Watch USA (who also ship to Canada).

This post, and the 50% sale, actually comes compliments of not an online store, but from Hodinkee, always an interesting site to see what’s for sale in higher-end vintage watches, especially examples with lots of history and provenance. They’ve arranged the following deal with Orient Watch USA.



Sure it’s not a Seiko, but it’s definitely a solid lower-end mechanical brand with a few years of history, and are now owned by Seiko although with no brand overlap. I’ve been happy with the quality of their watches, I’d put them at a similar or slightly higher level as a Citizen diver.

Looking at the Orient Watch USA site, even their normal pricing is quite reasonable. Here’s their current “New Years” special offer – buy a watch and get 30% off plus an additional lower-end automatic watch!

Sure it’s all marketing – nobody pays the retail price online, and usually not even in stores. Mind you, at least it’s not as bad as the 300% starting markups in the mattress business! It’s nice to see a reasonable ordering system with reasonable prices from a brand these days.
