Lange, Certina, Fortis, Hamilton & Breitling
A collection of additional browsing finds of note, older links from the last several months that have been cluttering up my bookmarks but now deserve to be posted.
First, a well done ad for A. Lange & Söhne and their “Richard Lange Pour la Merit” watch…

I like the clean look of the Certina DS 1 Automatic of recent years. Nothing special technically, hosting the ubiquitous ETA 2824-2, it still has a nice styling. PuristSPro shows us the “Limited Edition” version celebrating the 50th anniversary of their DS watches. At about US$800 retail it’s not terribly expensive, but makes the point that you can purchase either a Christopher Ward with the same movement for much less. Or maybe instead a Halios, with the same movement and more exclusivity, also for less!

A watch I would buy however, independent of comparisons, is the new Fortis Spaceleader watch jointly designed by Fortis and Volkswagen Design, with slightly asymmetric casing, and tied into Cargo, an upcoming Dutch sci-fi/horror movie. Check out Ariel’s review at ABlogToRead for more info. I appreciate this being made with an ETA Valjoux 7750 movement, that ups the cool factor! Unfortunately first reports indicate the retail will be about $3,000. It will be a limited edition, 2,012 pieces.

Also interesting to me is that this is not a new model name, Fortis has a prior Spaceleader, produced (as will be obvious in the following image) in the 1970s.

Speaking of the ubiquity of the ETA 2824-2 movement, I also like the looks of the new Hamilton Seaview auto with that mechanism, it’s got an interested rugged/worn look to it that I quite appreciate.

And from TimeZone comes this lovely image of the Breitling B01 caliber released at Basel this year. One of the nicer assembled movement visuals that I’ve seen for a recent automatic. And it’s a nice one also – 47 jewels with 70 hours power reserve, column wheel, vertical-triggering, auto-centering reset hammers, customizable index regulation, and instantaneous date. Check the post for a nice partially exploded visualization also.

Last but not least, also from TimeZone Industry News, a limited edition version of one of the few chronograph watches I like, the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage. This LE has alternate color sub-dials compared to the standard monochromatic arrangement. Very nice color schemes and overall look. The steel mesh bracelets really finish off this watch well.

Fortis watches are nice! I like the design. Certina timepiece is also good: it’s really classical.

I like the Heritage look from Breitling. I’m thinking they would look great on a croco straps!
