Straw Dials

Very cool detail on these Hermes watches (yes, a bit of a foo-foo designer brand in some ways, one that I normally don’t follow, but they do have some good watches in their collections).

What material are those blue appliques on the dial made from? How about hand-crafted dyed straw marquetry from an atrisanal farm in France!

I like this idea, I like the execution, I like the design and look, and I like these watches. No idea on price but probably out of my typical range. :-) For more info on the Hermès Arceau Marqueterie de Paille read here by Kyle at

Not as cool as the BlackBeard, but very nice. Reviewed (with these pics) by Paul Hubbard over at the blog of Ariel Adams.

Another video found by Hodinkee – This YouTube clips states that the first ever TV ad was for Bulova watches in 1941, for which they paid $9. Things have changed a bit since!

Although I’m not a Rolex aficionado, following up on my last post, this is a neat article.

A different sort of watch contest

FratelloWatches are currently running a contest where you can win a pilot’s jacket and sunglasses, to go with whatever aviator watch you happen to own.

Have you seen our GMT-Master History article last week? Besides a lot of Rolex GMT-Master watches, an airplane and a pilot there were also a leather pilot jacket (by PME) and a pair of Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses included in some of the pictures.

Neat prizes, go to FratelloWatches for the details and to enter!
