Owing to the extreme instability of the compound accurate determinations of the boiling and melting points have not been made as yet. Numerous explosions, often without assignable cause, have occurred during the experiments.

A Few Watch Brand BASEL Ads

The world of watch brand advertising can often be either boring and tacky. Sometimes (not often) we see exceptions that stick with us, the Patek Phillipe “generations” campaign being one of them. Here are a few recent ads and marketing-style announcements that caught my eye.

This is the third new diver model from JeanRichard that I’ve talked about recently. This one has an interesting complication, thanks to Ariel at ABlogToRead.com for the details. Look at the “12″, and the small E/F next to it … the numeral is just an outline, and the white portion fills up as a power reserve dial! Different without being too tacky.

Steinhart Marine 7753 Chronograph

Steinhart is a brand I’ve not written about before, as in the past they have mostly produced “homage” watches (such as Rolex lookalikes) with no real original designs to them, but I do admit to really liking this release.

The gray sandwich dial is a nice touch. It’s powered by an ETA caliber Valjoux 7753.

If it was priced similar to Christopher Ward watches with ETA movements, then I’d really consider buying it right away. Unfortunately it has a price of 1,240 Euros (MSRP), or about $1,700 Canadian. That is more or less realistic for this watch, although I’d hesitate given the brand perception of Steinhart.

Yes, it can happen to you…

Too bad, a very good site and I had a few Seiko articles to mention from it this week.

This article is actually about how to communicate complex data with pictures and graphics instead of words.

I’ve posted about the first site before – recently ChartsBin added an update to an interesting graphical representation of data I’ve seen before, which is coffee consumption by country (thanks again to speedmaster for the specific post).

Here in Canada we’re not the highest, but thanks to Tim’s we’re definitely up there. So, do you ever wonder how that relates to not drinking alcohol in Canada?

A fairly recent collection addition, I purchased this from a US forum member last fall. Other than a scratch on the side of the display back, it’s in very good shape. I find this a very nice version of a Seiko casual watch. Although not subtle, it’s look is toned down by a creamy coloured dial. It’s very comfortable feeling despite being a bit thicker than most Seiko watches of this type, reasonable movement, nice feel, nice strap, good price point.
