Unfortunate, and of course right before I was heading down to visit. To the best of my knowledge that reduces that number of locations locally to purchase the better/Asian Seiko models to Zero.

Image and text from TimeZone Industry News. My favorite of the year won!

The winner of the Watch of the Year award (WOTY) 2011 is Grönefeld.

Dutch watchmakers Tim and Bart Gronefeld presented in 2011 the “One Hertz”, the world’s first and only production wristwatch with independent dead seconds (secondes morte in French). The One Hertz features Grönefeld own proprietary movement and indicates hours and minutes on a sub-dial at 2 o’clock; large sub-dial for the dead seconds; power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock; and an innovative setting-winding indicator at 3 o’clock.

The results are as follow:
Gronefeld 29.0% – 1st place
Patek Philippe 23.1% – 2nd place
JLC 19.5% – 3rd place
Lange 18.1% – 4th place
Vacheron 6.8% – 5th place
Baume & Mercier 3.4% – 6th place

Very cool detail on these Hermes watches (yes, a bit of a foo-foo designer brand in some ways, one that I normally don’t follow, but they do have some good watches in their collections).

What material are those blue appliques on the dial made from? How about hand-crafted dyed straw marquetry from an atrisanal farm in France!

I like this idea, I like the execution, I like the design and look, and I like these watches. No idea on price but probably out of my typical range. :-) For more info on the Hermès Arceau Marqueterie de Paille read here by Kyle at Perpetuelle.com

Not as cool as the BlackBeard, but very nice. Reviewed (with these pics) by Paul Hubbard over at the blog of Ariel Adams.

Another video found by Hodinkee – This YouTube clips states that the first ever TV ad was for Bulova watches in 1941, for which they paid $9. Things have changed a bit since!

Although I’m not a Rolex aficionado, following up on my last post, this is a neat article.
